Bishopswood is not one of those places that you grow into. Instead, it grows into you. A small camp like Bishopswood allows everybody to get to know each other, and I have made incredible bonds with other adults and campers in the relatively short time that we spend together. - Staff member
The Director
Since 1979, Georgia Koch has served as Bishopswood’s director. Georgia has experience in camping, teaching, and administration. She is active in the American Camping Association, Maine Youth Camping Association, and the church community. Georgia has training in human resource development and is a Standards Visitor in the American Camping Association.
The Assistant Director
Sara Foster serves as the Assistant Director and Program Director, and 2010 will mark her 21st summer on staff. She is a trained by the American Red Cross as a lifeguard instructor and a waterfront safety instructor. She co-leads the Counselor-in -Training program. Her passions include teaching, animals, nature, and singing. Having attended a variety of camps as a young person, Sara realizes the value of outdoor learning and community living experiences for children. Sara is a first grade teacher in the South Portland school district.![]()
Health Care Manager
A former camper, CIT, and cabin counselor, Registered Nurse Lisa Sholudko has been Bishopswood's primary camp nurse since 2000. Between stints at camp, she attended Boston College School of Nursing, married and had three boys. Lisa returned to Bishopswood as a camper parent in 1998.
Program Specialists
These experienced staff members support and guide activity leaders and cabin counselors, and help the directors to realize the goals of Bishopswood.
The Staff
Staff members at Bishopswood are mostly college age. Many have been campers and Counselors-In-Training at Bishopswood. All are carefully selected on the basis of their dedication to working with children and commitment to the values of Bishopswood.

About 35 in total, the staff includes Cabin Counselors/Activity Leaders, a nurse, cook and kitchen assistants, maintenance people, and program specialists. Staff members come from all over the country and bring a rich variety of experiences, gifts, and skills. Together the staff forms the hub of the Bishopswood community.
